Acne is one of the most common skin problems in the world. It is a condition that occurs most time in the skin of the face. It is mostly seen in the adolescent stage although some cases are also seen in adults. It looks more like red pimples and is mostly caused by bacterial infection.

There can be a conventional acne treatment for these skin infections, but sometimes these treatments leave the face with other undesirable side effects, such as dryness, redness and face irritation. This has caused many people to look for natural ways to treat acne at home.

Although many home treatment for acne has no medical or scientific backup. But over the years, they have proved effective for curing acne. Here is some proven acne treatment that you can make at home.

Proven Acne Treatments That You Can Make at Home

1. Make a Honey or Cinnamon Mask

Honey has proven itself as an incredible way of curing so many ailments and acne is one of them. Recent research studies indicate that honey on its own can prevent the growth of acne on the face. 

Also, when honey is combined with cinnamon bark extract has an antibacterial effect on acne. Honey and cinnamon have an incredible anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect which may reduce acne on your face. To make this at home;

  • You mix one teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to form a paste
  • You then apply the paste to your face and wait for about 10 to 15 minutes
  • After, you then wash your face completely and let it dry. Do this at least 2 to 3 times a day. Although cinnamon may irritate some skin, so it is advised you put it in a small area first or a little on your palm to know how sensitive it is before applying it fully on your face.

2. Moisturize Your Face with Aloe Vera

There is a tropical plant, mostly found in areas with a little amount of water making the leaves thick and succulent. The liquid stored in the succulent leaves is like a “gel”. This gel in aloe vera can be used to treat acne at home. 

The gel can be added to lotions like creams, ointments and scraps. According to some research conducted on the aloe vera plant, they can be used to treat burns, wounds, skin inflammation etc. Aloe vera contains salicylic acid that helps to reduce acne on the skin. To prepare these at home;

  • Apply the gel directly on the clean skin as a moisturizer.
  • Repeat these 1 or 2 times a day. Aloe vera can also be gotten from some cosmetic stores, but make sure it is pure aloe vera.

3. Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliation simply means the removal of layers of the skin, especially the dead skin cells. Exfoliation makes acne treatment for the skin more effective and also helps reduce acne on the face. 

Recent studies indicate that exfoliation may help improve skin repair and also improve the appearance of the skin. Exfoliation can be prepared at home using sugar or salt. 

Although this is mechanical and can be dangerous when not done properly. As such it is advised you should run it gently when applying for it. To prepare this at home;

  • Mix an equal amount of sugar or salt with coconut oil.
  • Gently rub your skin with the mixture and rinse well. You can exfoliate as often as you want.

4. Avocado Oil

It turns out the importance of avocado in our health development is infinite. Just when you thought you have seen all the benefits of avocado. Surprisingly, avocados also help in treating acne. 

Avocado oil is rich in linoleic acid, linolenic acid, oleic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E. Studies have revealed that avocado oil contains antioxidants which can be used to fight off free radicals and achieve radiant skin

It is a wonderful source of enrichment for dry and damaged skin. To make this at home;

  • Extract the oil from avocado
  • Rub on your skin 1 or 2 times daily.

5. Egg White

Egg white is very significant in the treatment of acne. They have been touted as a home remedy for wrinkles and acne blemishes. To make this at home;

  • Whip egg white into a meringue and then rub on your face and let it dry.
  • You can also mix egg white with other face ingredients for treating acne. This forms a film in the skin that gives a tight feeling. This can then be washed out later after like 10 to 15 minutes.

6. Apply Apple Cider Vinegar at Home

Applying apple cider is an incredible cure for many skin infections, but be quite cautious while making use of it. It is advised you should introduce a little to your skin first before filling the application as some skin are sensitive to it, which may lead to skin burn. 

Vinegar as an acid makes it unfriendly for bacteria infection and helps kill bacteria that cause acne. It also encourages the removal of dead skin cells from the face. How to make it at home;

  • Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar and 3partsst water (use more water for sensitive skin)
  • After cleansing, gently apply the mixture to the skin using a cotton ball.
  • Allow it to start for about 30 seconds, then rinse with water and let it dry. You can do these for like 1 to 2 times daily.

7.  Garlic

Garlic is a local vegetable that is found everywhere, especially in northern Nigeria. They are known to be an instant solution for acne. Garlic contains organic sulfur and has a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. How to make this at home ;

  • Take a couple of garlic, then grind them until they form a paste
  • You then apply it to the affected area. It can also be eaten directly or mixed with water as drinks.

Along with these homemade acne treatments, lifestyle changes have a great influence on making the skin less oil and reducing acne flare ups. Some of these include avoiding touching your pimples, using oil-free skin care, staying hydrated and reducing stress etc. 

You can always choose from a wide range of home treatments for acne because not all can work for everyone. Consult your doctor if these proven home treatments for acne do not work for you or if your acne gets worse.
